currently in a discussion about this with from friends from my old church. Basically, their church believes this:
- Quote :
Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement, and is the privilege of all believers.
The main verses they're using are:
Isaiah 53:4
4 Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
Matthew 8:16-17
16That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: "He took our illnesses and bore our diseases."
If physical healing is included with the atonement, when does this happen? (Glorification?) Obviously, us Christians still get sick. It seems like when they're talking about physical healing, they're talking about now, in this earth, for every Christian it's possible. If it is part of the atonement, then why do we (Christians) still get sick or why some of us don't get healed? Does it boil down to our belief or depends fully on God's sovereignty? Did the work of Christ really include physical healing NOW, or does it mean later, or a spiritual healing? Would like some thoughts on this. thanks
