Do you think reality TV will ever die out?

Reality has become HUGE...pretty much taking over television in the last 10-15 years. Starting with (as far as I know) the first season of real world. and from then on, the idea of following people around with a camera doing all sorts of dumb Ephesians 4:29 became the norm. I'm saying though....just like back in the 70's they had variety shows, the Gong Show, Donnie and Marie....that stuff died out eventually. Do yall think reality TV will die off eventually? Before our generation passes away at least? I wonder if our children's children will care for this type of stuff. Or if something new will emerge. There is probably a reality TV show on 24/7 somewhere on some channel everyday. How crazy is that?

A lot of it needs to, but I don't think it will. For the TV companies, it is low cost and makes money. For the viewers, it's interesting cuz we have voyeuristic tendencies..and it's better than most scripted shows on TV. LOL

Yeah, I agree with Rikki. I don't think it's going anywhere, at least not while there are nosey people in the world...lol.

Yeah....I agree with everyone. I mean, people will always and forever be interested in what someone else is doing in their life, famous or not. That's why gossip runs amuck in the world and church alike. People are curious to see how others will respond to different stressors and situations as well as to live vicariously through someone with less morals. You know? Its like, "I'd never cheat on my husband (even though I've been tempted to) but I'd sit and watch Suzie do it for a whole season". It kinda fulfills that sin nature within us, but makes us feel like we're still in the clear 'cause we ourselves didn't sin. But the Bible is clear when it talks about people taking pleasure in other sinning. It says....well, it says don't do it.

I don't think Reality TV in and of itself is wrong. I mean, there could be a reality show about a church and a few members and whatnot. Its necessarily wrong. But when things start becoming ridiculous...you just need to turn the station.

maybe not completely.

It's funny, Arnold Schwarzenhoweveryouspellit' s movie The Running Man kinda predicted the 'reality tv' biz waaaay back when it came out. if you never seen it, look for it. you'll see much of the same things that you see in reality TV (including manipulation of guests and stars in order to boost ratings).
